MECHANIC INTERN

Department: General Maintenance
Location: Brighton, CO

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Mechanic Intern supports the maintenance team by assisting with inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles. This role provides hands-on experience to develop mechanical skills while learning industry best practices. Success requires a strong willingness to learn, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.

Salary range $27/hour.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Assist with routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on diesel and heavy equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts to identify mechanical issues and determine repair needs.
  • Help maintain and service engines, brakes, hydraulic systems, and other components.
  • Record maintenance activities and ensure accurate documentation of completed work.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with ordering parts and managing inventory for repair needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to support timely repairs.
  • Provide assistance during urgent or emergency repair situations as needed.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate is a motivated student or recent graduate eager to gain hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance. They are curious, dependable, and safety-conscious, with a strong interest in learning and developing technical skills. This individual is adaptable, team-oriented, and committed to building a career in the mechanical or heavy equipment field.

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a technical program in diesel, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, including diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical components.
  • Familiarity with tools, equipment, and introductory diagnostic techniques.
  • Exposure to maintenance of heavy equipment or manufacturing systems through coursework or training.
  • Strong attention to detail with developing troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Bilingual skills preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work both independently with guidance and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work in varying conditions, including occasional evenings or weekends.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally and frequent bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, squatting, crawling, and repetitive hand/arm use
  • Capable of standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for extended shifts of up to 12 hours
  • Comfortable working at heights using ladders, scaffolding, swing stages, and man lifts frequently
  • Ability to work safely in a production or field environment with moderate to high exposure to safety risks and hazards
  • Willingness to work in varying environmental conditions, including wet, hot, humid, and cold weather, and outdoors (Depending on location)
  • Ability to wear all required PPE, including but not limited to safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility vest, hard hat, and other PPE as required by the task, department, or work area.
